Wireless Configurations

The sample wireless DNC system pictured below provides many advantages over a hard-wired DNC system. Wireless DNC provides the flexibility to move machines and avoid clearance issues. Standard 802.11G compliant Access Points are connected to an existing Ethernet network. The Access Points distribute data to and from the LAN to the Wonderware wireless RS232 adapters on the CNC machines. The wireless units on each machine convert the incoming NC programs from Ethernet data into RS232 signals for input into the CNC's serial communications port.

A software application runs on the DNC server and assigns a specific IP address for each of the communications ports. This function eliminates the need for a separate serial port server and enables the system to transmit data to the correct RS232 converting device.
